2018 January Annual Breakfast | Grid Operations and the Increasing Challenges of Balancing Renewable Energy

Thursday, January 18th, 2018. Chris Olson – Vice President of PNMR’s Utility Operations will discuss the fundamental transformation occurring in the electric industry and PNM’s strategy to achieve a more carbon free generation portfolio. PNM, New Mexico’s largest electric utility, is on a path to achieve over 50% carbon free electric generation by 2024. The migration towards higher renewable penetration provides significant operational challenges for grid operators along with environmental benefits provided by renewable energy sources.

Chris Olson has served the energy industry for 30+ years. Prior to joining PNM, he worked for Corval Group, DTE Energy, Xcel Energy, Northern States Power as well as Westinghouse. Olson holds a Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering and attended the University of Minnesota’s Executive Program.
